    Quartet of Saints track and field athletes shine at Hamline Elite Meet

    A quartet of St. Peter track and field athletes traveled to Hamline University Friday evening to compete in the Hamline Elite Meet which invites the top athletes from across all classes of competition in the state of Minnesota to battle head to head.

    Two-time state championship contenders Corbin Herron and Luke Banks made the trip to compete in a pair of events while Keira Friedrich, two time state qualifier in cross country, and Ella Dirks ran for the Saints.

    Herron competed in both the 110 meter hurdles and the 300m hurdles finishing ninth in the 110m race with a time of 17.50 before claiming first in the 300m race with a PR time of 38.79, almost two full seconds under the MSHSL 2024 standard in the event.

    Banks claimed 11th in the shot put with a top mark of 50 feet and eight inches before claiming first in the discus with a monstrous throw of 177’9”, a full 29’5” further than the MSHSL 2024 standard for class AA.

    Friedrich compete in a pair of events for St. Peter, finishing eighth in the 800m run with a time of 2:20.46 and she was followed closely by Dirks who finished just behind her with a time of 2:20.48 to claim ninth.

    In the 1600m run, Friedrich posted a PR time of 5:05.85, just under three seconds below the MSHSL standard, to finish 10th overall.

    The St. Peter track and field team will return to full action Thursday, May 2, when they travel to Mankato East H.S. to compete in an invite hosted by the Cougars. Events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
