Deadly shooting early Wednesday near Soulard nightclub

The shooting happened at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the parking lot of Bottom Line Sports Bar and Grill.

ST. LOUIS — A man died early Wednesday morning after a shooting near a nightclub in St. Louis' Soulard neighborhood.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, a city park ranger on regular patrol at Soulard Park heard gunshots ring out just after 12:30 a.m. near South 7th Street and South Broadway.

Police said the arranger arrived at the scene in the 1500 block of South 7th Street and found 31-year-old Jamal Perkins of St. Louis shot multiple times in the parking lot of Bottom Line Sports Bar and Grill. Perkins was pronounced dead by EMS.

The shooting happened outside of a nightclub, but there was no immediate indication that the shooting was connected to the business, police said.

The Homicide Division assumed the ongoing investigation. There were no known suspects as of Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson with the St. Louis Department of Public Safety provided a statement regarding Bottom Line Sports Bar and Grill on the city's Problem Property List, which reads:

This incident is in the infancy stage of the investigation and the details are still unfolding.
