When the Cup Series makes its return to Gateway this weekend, it will be missing its brightest star.

Follow TSN's live coverage of the Enjoy Illinois 300 from St. Louis

Chase Elliott was parked for this week's race after being found to have intentionally wrecked Denny Hamlin during last week's Coca-Cola 600. The move could have dire consequences for the former Cup Series winner; he finds himself on the outside looking in of the playoff chase after missing six races with a broken fibula.

Taking the reins in the No. 9 car is Corey LaJoie. Son of former Busch Series champion Randy LaJoie, Corey hasn't accomplished much to date in his Cup Series career. Trouble in LaJoie's pit box cost Alex Bowman and Bubba Wallace precious time, pushing them down the race leaderboard come the end of the day. Still, the chance to manage elite Hendrick Motorsports equipment is one LaJoie can't pass up. Especially not with his Cup Series dreams dangerously close to slipping away.
