ST. LOUIS — MetroLink trains have resumed operation between two stations in the St. Louis area after a barge hit the Eads Bridge.

A statement from MetroLink said the barge struck the Eads Bridge around noon on Tuesday.

In a 4:45 p.m. update, MetroTransit said trains were back in service across the Eads Bridge after inspections were completed. Service between the Civic Center Station and the 5th & Missouri station in East St. Louis has resumed.

Bus shuttles have been canceled for passengers.

In a 2:30 p.m. update, Metro Transit said it would be several hours until service is restored over the bridge as it is being inspected to ensure it's safe. Metro Transit is not able to resume service until inspections are complete.

The update also said Blue Line trains are only operating between the Shrewsbury and Forest Park-Debaliviere Stations. Riders could experience 10-20 minute delays.
