The Reds placed Friedl on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a strained left hamstring, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Friedl hasn't played since being removed from Tuesday's game against Boston. He's already begun doing field work alongside a bit of running, so he shouldn't require much more than a minimum stint on the IL, but that still means Friedl will be held out for another week or so. The 27-year-old outfielder is currently slashing .326/.377/.496 with 20 RBI through 158 plate appearances.

Herget was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday. Herget holds a 4.79 ERA over 12 relief appearances for the Reds this season, although that high ERA is largely the result of one particularly bad outing. He's clearing out to make room for Andrew Abbott on the roster.

The Reds selected Abbott's contract from Triple-A Louisville ahead of his scheduled start Monday versus the Brewers. Abbott is slated to make his major-league debut Monday and will line up for a two-start week, with Cincinnati already confirming him to make his next turn through the rotation Saturday in St. Louis. The left-hander leads the minor leagues with 90 strikeouts thus far in 2023 to go along with a 2.50 ERA and 0.93 WHIP along the way across 54 innings between Double-A Pensacola and Louisville. Abbott's first matchup is a good one, as the Brewers rank last in baseball as a team with a .281 wOBA versus lefties.

The 30-year-old drew the start at designated hitter and was able to contribute a single in his first taste of big-league action this season. Ford generated a lackluster .206/.302/.313 slash line across 149 plate appearances with a whopping four major-league teams in 2022, and even with his success thus far this minor-league season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, it remains to be seen how much he can contribute outside of the occasional power numbers.

Crawford suffered a knee injury in the eighth inning of Saturday's loss to the Rangers but he plans to play against Texas on Sunday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Crawford suffered the knee injury while making a dive into second base and colliding with Leody Taveras. While Crawford was able to stay in the game, it was clear the shortstop was dealing with soreness. If the pain doesn't subside, he may sit out a game, but for now Crawford should be considered likely to be in the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Rangers.
