Friedl hasn't played since being removed from Tuesday's game against Boston. He's already begun doing field work alongside a bit of running, so he shouldn't require much more than a minimum stint on the IL, but that still means Friedl will be held out for another week or so. The 27-year-old outfielder is currently slashing .326/.377/.496 with 20 RBI through 158 plate appearances.

Zeller had been listed as questionable on the initial Game 2 injury report the Heat released Saturday, but he's apparently shown some improvement as Sunday's 8 p.m. ET opening tip draws closer. Even if active Sunday, Zeller likely won't play more than a handful of minutes behind starting center Bam Adebayo, who is once again expected to shoulder a heavy workload.

Crawford suffered the knee injury while making a dive into second base and colliding with Leody Taveras. While Crawford was able to stay in the game, it was clear the shortstop was dealing with soreness. If the pain doesn't subside, he may sit out a game, but for now Crawford should be considered likely to be in the lineup for Sunday's finale against the Rangers.

The Astros plan to promote Kessinger from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Mark Berman of Fox 26 reports. Kessinger was a second-round pick in 2019 and will be in line to make his major-league in the coming days. The 25-year-old began the 2023 campaign at Triple-A Sugar Land and slashed .284/.400/.443 with six homers, 37 runs, 32 RBI and two stolen bases. Kessinger's playing time will likely depend on whether Jose Altuve (oblique) is available for the start of the Astros' upcoming series in Toronto.

Maeda (triceps) gave up two earned runs over three innings with four strikeouts and no walks during a rehab start Sunday for Triple-A St. Paul. It was his second rehab outing with the Saints and he went one inning longer than his first start, tossing 45 pitches (29 strikes) this time out. Maeda will likely need at least a couple more rehab starts before he's ready to be considered for Minnesota's rotation. The 35-year-old right-hander posted a 9.00 ERA across his first four starts (16 innings) this season before going on the injured list due to a right triceps strain, but 10 of the 16 runs he allowed came in the game during which he got hurt, April 26 against the Yankees.
