Rain is becoming more scattered for most as the first of two rounds of precipitation moves eastward. Off and on showers could linger into Friday afternoon as southerly winds increase. Gusts up to 30-35 MPH are possible at times as the center of low pressure inches closer. These strong south winds will drastically increase atmospheric moisture Friday evening into Friday night, allowing for the second round of heavy rains to feature efficient rainfall rates. Due to this, a Flood Watch will go into effect at 7 PM Friday for Dodge, Olmsted, Winona, Freeborn, Mower, Fillmore, Houston, Mitchell, Howard, and Winneshiek counties to account for potential flash flooding in low-lying locations and urban settings. Scattered storms, locally heavy rain possible Sunday

A slow-moving storm setup will bring the potential for locally heavy rain to western and southwestern Minnesota and northwestern Iowa through Sunday evening. Some heavier rain has also developed farther east than initially expected, including the Mankato area, while locations farther east of that line from roughly St. Cloud to Mankato to Blue Earth will have a lower chance of seeing significant rainfall. The greatest concern will remain in the western part of the KEYC News Now coverage area, where repeated thunderstorms could produce several inches of rain in a short period of time. A Flood Watch is in effect for parts of southwestern MN and northwestern IA through this evening. Storm chances will decrease Sunday night before another round of rain and thunderstorms arrives Monday night into Tuesday. Conditions will get quieter later in the week.
