I’M JUST SAD THAT IT HAPPENED THIS WAY. I THIS IS SOMETHING I NEVER PREPARED MYSELF FOR. TERRY MANGRUM DROVE TO SACRAMENTO FROM ARIZONA, COMPELLED TO MAKE THIS HIS FIRST STOP. I BROKE DOWN ON MY WAY COMING HERE, THE SCENE OF WHERE HE LOST HIS THREE YEAR OLD GRANDSON, ZAYDEN. HE WAS A GOOD, BRIGHT KID. HIS SIX YEAR OLD GRANDDAUGHTER, LAYLA, SURVIVED THE CRASH. SHE’S AT THE POINT WHERE SHE’S FIGHTING, HE SAYS. LAYLA IS CRITICAL AND HAS SEVERAL BROKEN BONES. SHE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU BEING THERE LIKE SHE’LL HOLD YOUR HAND, SHE’LL MOVE. BUT IT’S A BATTLE. MY SON IS UP THERE RIGHT NOW WITH HER. SACRAMENTO POLICE ARE INVESTIGATING. DETECTIVE BELIEVE THE DRIVER WAS SPEEDING, LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND SLAMMED INTO THE TREE ON SAN JUAN ROAD. AND HE SAYS HE WANTED TO BE HERE FOR HIS SON. ZIDANE’S FATHER. YOU HAVE TO BE STRONG FOR ONE ANOTHER, BUT IT’S HARD TO BE STRONG FOR ONE ANOTHER WHEN ONE IS STILL YOU. EVERY TIME I TALK TO MY SON ABOUT IT, HE BREAKS DOWN, MAN. INGRAM ASKED THE COMMUNITY TO HELP HIS FAMILY HEAL. JUST PRAY FOR EVERYBODY. JUST PRAY FOR HIM. AND THAT’S WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN DOING HERE TODAY. STOPPING BY THE MEMORIAL, SAYING A PRAYER, THINKING ABOUT EVERYONE WHO WAS INVOLVED IN THIS CRASH AND JUST THINKING ABOUT THE CHILDREN.
