SACRAMENTO -- One man is dead and another injured in an early morning shooting in Sacramento, said authorities. 

The shooting occurred early Thursday morning just before 6 a.m., in the 7400 block of Stockton Boulevard. 

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office, one man broke in and started shooting at someone inside the apartment. The victim was able to reach for his legally-owned handgun to return fire. Upon arrival, deputies found both men suffering from gunshot wounds. 

One of the victims, a 56-year-old man, was hit several times in the chest and eventually died at the hospital. 

The other victim, a 49-year-old man, was hit in the neck and is expected to recover from his injuries.

An investigation by Sheriff's Homicide detectives revealed that they were co-workers who had an ongoing feud.

Deputies say the 49-year-old man has been identified as Julian Brooks and he has now been arrested. He was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail, where he was charged with murder. 

He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, June 5.
