California lawmakers approve Newsom's bill that would punish oil refiners when they make too much money | California lawmakers on Monday approved a measure that would allow state regulators to consider punishing oil refiners when they make too much money off of California drivers. The measure passed its final legislative hurdle in the Assembly in a 52-19 vote. Gov. Gavin Newsom could sign the bill as soon as Tuesday. Read more here.
Modesto teen with bone disease says her specialized wheelchair was stolen | A Modesto family is asking for help after their 17-year-old daughter's wheelchair was stolen overnight. Mykayla Herrera has osteogenesis imperfecta, more commonly known as brittle bone disease. She said the medical condition affects her ability to move, so she relies on her specialized wheelchair to get her around. Read more here.
'We will not live in fear': Sacramento County Sikh temple says next year's parade still on despite shooting | Two people are still in the hospital after a shooting on the grounds of the Gurdwara Sacramento Sikh Society Temple on Bradshaw Road on Sunday. The temple was hosting its inaugural Nagar Kirtan parade, which was the first time the religious event took place in Sacramento. Read more here.
Dodge Ridge ski resort extends season amid record snowfall | It may be springtime, but at the Dodge Ridge ski resort in the Pinecrest area of Tuolumne County, snowfall and business remains strong. Sacramento Kings fall to Timberwolves, playoff dreams remain on hold | The Minnesota Timberwolves held back the Sacramento Kings on Monday night, stalling the team's hopes of securing a playoff berth for the first time since the 2005-2006 season. Rare beetle species named after ex-California governor Brown | Bembidion brownorum was last seen in 1966, but it hadn't been named or described until one was collected near a creek on Brown's ranch in Colusa County, about an hour's drive northwest of Sacramento, the University of California, Berkeley announced Monday. 39 dead, dozens injured in fire at Mexico migrant facility near US | A fire in a dormitory at a Mexican immigration detention center near the U.S. border left more than three dozen migrants dead, a government agency said Tuesday, in one of the deadliest incidents ever at an immigration lockup in the country. Hours after the fire broke out late Monday, rows of bodies were laid out under shimmery silver sheets outside the facility in Ciudad Juarez, across from El Paso, Texas. Read more here.
Nashville elementary school shooter was ex-student with detailed plan | The former student who shot through the doors of a Christian elementary school in Nashville and killed three children and three adults had drawn a detailed map of the school, including potential entry points, and conducted surveillance of the building before carrying out the massacre. House GOP to subpoena Blinken over Afghanistan dissent cable | House Republicans plan to deliver a subpoena to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday for classified cables related to the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, marking an unprecedented effort to force the release of sensitive documents to Congress. President Biden's student loan forgiveness program faces a new threat | President Joe Biden's student loan forgiveness program may face a new threat from Senate Republicans even before the U.S. Supreme Court rules on whether it can be implemented. Republican Sens. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, Joni Ernst of Iowa and John Cornyn of Texas are planning to introduce a resolution to overturn Biden's debt relief program, which promises up to $20,000 of debt relief for eligible borrowers, as soon as this week. TODAY'S WEATHER OUTLOOK
KCRA 3's weather team is calling Tuesday an Impact Day. Meteorologist Tamara Berg says some in Northern California are waking up to some showers. Winds are expected to increase as the system today moves through. Rain is expected for much of the morning with on-and-off showers into the evening. Temperatures will be in the low 50s by 8 a.m., then go down to the upper 40s by 4 p.m.
