Ruston, La. (KTVE/KARD) — In this week’s Bulldog Blitz sponsored by Jim Taylor Ford in Ruston fans are beginning to prepare to get their first look at the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs with the annual football spring game set to kickoff this weekend. The Bulldogs feel like they have all the ingredients to make something special in the new season, and this Saturday will give them the chance to display if they are truly on the right track to improving as a ball club.

The defensive side of the ball was a big concern last year but with the grand finale of spring football nearing Louisiana Tech sophomore defensive back Michael Richard explained that playing together as a unit will be the key to being successful this fall.

“Where we can take the next step honestly is just playing together, that’s it. Last year we had a lot of situations where we weren’t on the same page, and you can’t play like that. If you’re not willing to trust the guy that’s next to you and have confidence in him, you can’t play as a defense,” said Richard.

On the more exciting side of the ball the offense is notably replacing some key playmakers that are no longer on the team, but Louisiana Tech Offensive Coordinator Scott Parr is confident in the pieces that are meshing the room to end the spring.

There’s a lot of potential, leadership and a lot of want to, we’ve got a long way to go but we have all the ingredients that it takes to get there, and I feel like we have the kids that have the mentality to get to where we need to be when that time comes,” said Parr.

The game is set to kick off this Saturday at 11 a.m. at Joe Aillett Stadium.
