A Tennessee man was arrested following a high-speed pursuit on the Cumberland Parkway that went through Russell County on Wednesday.
According to Kentucky State Police, 32 year-old Matthew Cole of Madison, Tennessee faces charges of armed robbery first degree, theft of a motor vehicle valuing more than $10,000; receiving stolen property, wanton endangerment second degree, assault of a police officer, resisting arrest, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, and operating on a suspended license.
According to state police, dispatchers at Post 15 were notified of a strong armed robbery and theft of a vehicle in Somerset at about 10:30 Wednesday morning with the suspect traveling west on the Cumberland Parkway.
When a Post 15 trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, Cole refused to stop and accelerated to speeds over 100 mph.
During the pursuit, Cole stopped his vehicle in the roadway and shifted to reverse, ramming his vehicle into the front of a trooper’s Tahoe.
Cole continued west, according to police, where troopers were able to successfully use tire deflation devices. Cole ran the vehicle off the right side of the parkway through a fence into a field before being arrested and lodged in the Adair County Regional Jail.
