Royersford’s Mikey Smith Recognized for His Community Service

By

Royersford’s Mikey Smith has been faced with many challenges throughout his life, but that never stopped him from wanting to help others, writes Matteo Iadonisi for 6ABC.

Smith, who was born with a brain injury, began volunteering when he was a teenager. He would help out with the sports teams in the Spring-Ford Area School District. And then after he graduated, he volunteered at Pottstown Hospital, delivering packages.

He also has been a volunteer at the local fire and police departments in Royersford, Phoenix Rehab, Wawa, Main Street Café and at Progressive Rehab in Limerick.

And he does all this, while working full-time at Costco.

Smith was honored recently for his years of community service with a certificate of recognition by Pennsylvania State Senator Katie Muth.

“Mikey’s our eyes and ears of the neighborhood/ If he sees something that’s out of the ordinary, he’ll let us know,” said Chief Scot Fennelly of the Royersford Borough Police.

“He’s a positive attitude, always happy, always smiling, always willing to lend a hand.”
