A Federal Judge has thrown a Rowlett man in prison for 43-years for killing his former girlfriend.

Court records show that 36-year-old Andrew Beard was sentenced to 43-years in federal prison for two charges related to the murder of Alyssa Burkett.

Beard will be locked up without parole until he is almost 80-years-old.

In October of 2020, Beard stalked, tracked down then murdered Alyssa Burkett. She had just won custody of their small child.

Prosecutors say Beard used a tracking device to find Burkett at her Carrollton business before shooting her with a shotgun, then after realizing she was not dead, he stabbed her 13 times. As part of his plan, Beard work black makeup and used a cheap pickup truck that was designed to throw off investigators.

“This was a brutal, bloody crime,” said U.S. Attorney Chad Meacham. “Ms. Burkett’s daughter is now suffering twin tragedies: Her mother is deceased, and her father is an admitted murderer. We pray for strength for this child and the rest of her family in the days, weeks, and years to come.”

One FBI agent called Beard the definition of evil.
