Habitat for Humanity breaks ground on new home in Rotterdam
ROTTERDAM, NY (WRGB) —
Friday Habitat for Humanity of Schenectady broke ground on its 58th project -- and the second in the town of Rotterdam.

This house on Cramer Avenue was made possible through support from the Capital Region Land Bank, private donations, and the Communications Workers of America union.
The families that get to move into homes like the one being built Friday -- get to play a role in building them.
Kathy Fernandez, executive director, HFHSC, said, “The families do what we call sweat equity, 200 hours of work. They come out with our volunteers and help build... They become lifetime partners with us. It’s really important to have options like this. Homeownership provides stability for families and the community as well."
The home that they started building today will be two stories, with four bedrooms, the latest 'star energy' efficient requirements, and it's in a nice neighborhood.
