What was once a trusted assisted living facility, quickly became an empty one, forcing employees and families to vacate within 24 hours.
It has been almost 4 months since Mary And Martha's Personal Care in Rossville announced they were closing.
They made several posts of Facebook back in March talking about a staffing shortage and asking for people to apply.
Then, just 3 days later, they announced in the same way that the facility was closing.
But some of the workers who stuck around say they never got their last paycheck.
Thursday we spoke with them and looked into what options those staff have.
Mary and Martha's gave employees and residents 24 hours to leave when they shut the facility down.
We spoke with Alana Metcalf, who is a former manager at Mary and Martha’s.
"It was frustrating, trying to get the schedule covered and make sure that we were fully staffed up. And I did it to the best of my ability," says Metcalf.
Metcalf has been struggling since they closed the facility.
"It has been a constant battle since March the 2nd to get our pay," says Metcalf.
Metcalf just found out she has facial cellulitis.
"When I first woke up, it was awful. I thought that literally I'd had a stroke. The whole side of my face was just swelled up. It's a very, very painful," says Metcalf.
She says she needs what she’s owed for her time worked to help pay for medical bills.
"I think four months, I've been very, very patient. And I think it's gone on long enough," says Metcalf.
We tried contacting the owner, Martha Dawn, but she didn’t answer.
Attorney Bill Speek says that if employees are not receiving their money, they have options.
"There's not an additional penalty for holding payments for three months versus six months versus a year, but it does lead to civil action," says Speek.
Which Metcalf and other former employees are considering.
"We've just come to the conclusion that we're all gonna have to hire an attorney just to get our money," says Metcalf.
Metcalf says one of the patients that lived at the facility died almost two weeks after moving out.
