Officials confirm Washington murder suspect dead after chase on I-5
EUGENE, Ore. – Interstate 5 is blocked due to a sizable police response for a high-speed chase just north of Eugene related to an Amber Alert from Washington. Numerous law enforcement officers responded to reports of a suspect speeding down southbound Interstate 5 at about 2:53 p.m. on April 23. The suspect reportedly crashed near Milepost 197 near Armitage Park. Police said shots were fired during the chase. Oregon State Police confirmed the driver, Elias Huizar, 39, shot himself in the head at the end of the pursuit.
