Roseburg Fire Department personnel responded to a reported residential structure fire around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at a residence on W. Sanders Avenue.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy brown smoke coming from the back portion of the property. The fire was located inside a converted shed being utilized as a living space, the Fire Department said.
"Firefighters made an exterior attack of the shed, extinguished the fire, and completed overhaul," RFD said. "Firefighters were able to stop the spread of the fire to the primary residential home that was adjacent to the shed."
The resident was not inside the structure at the time of the fire.
Umpqua Valley Ambulance assessed a resident of the primary residential structure for smoke inhalation. The resident was not transported.
The shed was a total loss as it sustained extensive structural and water damage, officials said.
No residents were displaced.
A fire investigator was on scene and the fire remains under investigation.
Twelve firefighters assisted with firefighting operations. Other agencies assisting with the fire included Douglas County Fire District #2, Umpqua Valley Ambulance, Avista Utilities, Pacific Power, and the Roseburg Police Department.
