BILLINGS, Mont. — While trunk-or-treats and organized Halloween events give families across Montana more ways to celebrate, one Billings neighborhood is keeping the traditional door-to-door experience alive. Clark Avenue is once again preparing to welcome thousands of trick-or-treaters Saturday night. For the residents who live there, making the night happen takes months of planning, thousands of pieces of candy and hundreds of dollars. Ross and Kari Davidson are among the many families preparing for the crowds. Their goal every Halloween is to have about 5,000 pieces of candy ready for trick-or-treaters. But with candy prices climbing nationwide, they’ve had to make a few adjustments this year. According to federal inflation data, the cost of candy and chewing gum increased 7.7% in September compared to the same time last year. “I aim for 5,000 pieces of candy. And this year I did a little more non-chocolate just because chocolate was a lot more expensive,” Ross Davidson said. “So, the kids don’t seem to care one way or the other, but that seems to last the whole, like, three, three and a half hours.” The Davidsons start shopping as soon as Halloween candy hits store shelves, spreading out their purchases over a

Montana's first diverging diamond interchange coming to Johnson Lane in Lockwood

BILLINGS, Mont. — Drivers in the Billings area will see a major change to traffic patterns in Lockwood as the Montana Department of Transportation prepares to build Montana’s first diverging diamond interchange at Johnson Lane. The new design is intended to improve traffic flow around the Interstate 90 interchange, where congestion and backups have been an ongoing concern. Utility relocation work is already underway ahead of major construction expected to begin in spring 2027. A diverging diamond interchange temporarily moves traffic to the left side of the road as drivers travel through the interchange. The design reduces the number of places where vehicles cross paths, allowing traffic to move more efficiently between local roads and the interstate. MDT Engineering Project Manager Shane Johnson said the agency studied several options before selecting the design for Johnson Lane. “After some extensive studies, it was determined that this would be a good candidate for Montana’s first DDI. And it’s due to the congestion that’s been happening here for the last several years,” Johnson said. Yellowstone County appoints Arielle Dean as interim county attorney

BILLINGS, Mont. — Yellowstone County has named a new interim county attorney to keep the office moving through the end of the year after Scott Twito’s resignation took effect October 25, 2026. The Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners said Arielle Dean took over the role effective October 27, 2026. The board said Dean is licensed to practice law in Montana and qualified to serve in the position under state law. Commissioners said Dean will serve through January 1, 2027, and can remain in the job until a successor is appointed or elected and qualified, or as otherwise allowed by law. The resolution said the interim county attorney carries the full powers, duties and responsibilities of the office during the appointment. The Yellowstone County Board of County Commissioners passed and adopted the resolution on October 27, 2026.
