Middle school roundup: Spiller’s hat track fuels Warriors’ win

KINGSPORT — Eighth grader Jackson Spiller turned another hat trick in Rogersville Middle’s 7-2 win over Sullivan Heights on Tuesday night to become the school’s all-time leading scorer for a single season.

Spiller’s three goals against the Huskies brings his season total to 16.

Alexis Lozano chipped in two goals for the Warriors, while Emmett West and Jackson Zill added one goal each.

RMS 6, Edgemont 0

ROGERSVILLE — Jackson Spiller and the Warriors also celebrated eighth grade night in style on Monday with a 6-0 win over Edgemont. Spiller had three goals for the hat trick. Colton Engle and Jackson Zill also scored a goal for RMS.

The Warriors will wrap up the regular season with a home match against Indian Trail on Friday (April 26) at 6 p.m. The tournament starts next week, but pairings have not yet been released.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SOFTBALL

RCS 18, Gray 15

GRAY — The Rogersville City School Lady Warriors held off a Gray rally to win a softball slugfest 18-15 on Monday (April 22). The Lady Warriors committed an uncharacteristic six errors and were outhit 10-9 in the game.

Anna Mae Boyd and Rylee Sivert both homered in the game. Boyd finished 1 for 4 with three RBIs. Sivert finished 1 for 5 with two RBIs. Bailey Bledsoe went 2 for 4 and drove in four runs. Addy Arnwine tripled and drove in a run. Ayriona Holmes also had two hits for RCS.

Bledsoe threw six innings and gave up 10 runs (two earned) eight hits. She struck out 12. Boyd pitched an inning of relief and gave up five runs on two hits with six walks and a strikeout.

Central 5, CHMS 3

BLOUNTVILLE — The Lady Panthers rallied for three runs in the top of the sixth inning, but it wouldn’t be enough in a 5-3 loss to Sullivan Central on Wednesday (April 24).

Madison Holder doubled and drove in two runs for CHMS. Emersyn Templeton tripled and drove in a run. Emily Walker had two hits.

Walker threw three innings, giving up three unearned runs on three hits with seven strikeouts. Holder finished the game, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts.

Sullivan Heights 11,

CHMS 10

KINGSPORT — Sullivan Heights got a walk-off homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to edge the Lady Panthers 11-10 on Monday (April 22).

The Lady Panthers outhit the Lady Huskies 10-4 but committed 10 errors on defense.

Madison Holder led the offensive attack, going 2 for 4 with a double and five RBIs. Danni Guinn, Emersyn Templeton and Emilyn Roberts also had two hits each for Church Hill.

MIDDLE SCHOOL BASEBALL

CHMS 5, RCS 1

CHURCH HILL — Haiden Garst had three hits to lead the Panthers to a 5-1 baseball victory over RCS on Tuesday (April 23) in a five-inning county rivalry game.

Garst was 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Colton Huff, Hayden Grigsby, Braydon Alexander and Graycen Feagins each had one hit for CHMS.

Carson Williams earned the win. He pitched three scoreless innings, giving up two hits with one strikeout.

CHMS 30,

Bulls Gap 14

BULLS GAP — Church Hill scored nine runs in each of the final two innings to double off Bulls Gap 30-14 on Wednesday (April 24) in another county rivalry matchup.

James Morgan drove in five runs on three hits for the Panthers, who collected 20 hits in the game. Colton Huff was 2 for 4 with three RBIs. Haiden Garst, Hayden Grigsby, Branson Cordell, Jackson Hall and Levi Sensabaugh each drove in three runs.

Gray 7, RCS 6

GRAY — Gray scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come from behind and beat the Warriors 7-6 on Monday (April 22).

The Warriors’ pitching combo of Cole Putnal, Landon Davis and Conner Lyons allowed just two hits in the game, walked six and struck out nine. RCS outhit Gray 12-2 in the game, with Lyons leading the way with a 4 for 4 night at the plate. Putnal was 2 for 3 and drove in two runs. Teegan LeRoy was 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Mason McAnally also had two hits.
