From Wall Street to Augusta Street, new restaurant opens on Pizza Day
A mix of Southern Italy, New York City, and Roman-style pizza officially opened on National Pizza Day , Feb. 9, as Augusta Street Pizza brings whole and single-slice square pies, authentic Italian sandwiches, pastas, handcrafted gelato, and more to Greenville. The new restaurant concept at 2222 Augusta St., #4 is a lifelong passion project built by owners Nick Castronuovo and Carmelo “Carmine” Curra, who met nearly 30 years ago while working on Wall Street. Their dream of owning a pizza shop was fueled by memories of their families' ties to Southern Italy and their upbringing in New York. Alongside third owner Peter Lombardo, the trio launched a soft opening with abbreviated hours in mid-December and is now fully open for business. "We're going to serve pizza by the slice, because that's how we grew up," said Curra, who was born in Queens, New York. "Nick and Peter (Lombardo) were born in Brooklyn, so we want to share a style of pizza that tastes good, and is a bit healthier and airier."
