    SPORTS ROUNDUP: Bulldogs end regular season at .500

    Nash Central finished the regular season at 11-11 overall by easing past Knightdale in the season finale on Friday in Knightdale.

    Landyn Holt (12 strikeouts, one walk in 5.2 innings), Shea Whitley (one strikeout in one inning) and Camden Posey (one walk, one unearned run in one-third of an inning) combined on a no-hitter for the Bulldogs.

    Nash Central took a 3-0 lead with three runs in the second inning and expended it to 7-0 with two-run frames in the third and fourth innings. They pulled away with seven runs in the top of the seventh.

    Knightdale scored its lone run in the bottom of the seventh.

    Colby Lewis (double, two RBI) led the Bulldogs with four hits while Posey, Landon Dillane (double, RBI), Whitley (RBI), Holt (double, two RBI) and Winston Lee (three RBI) added two hits each. Braxton Sykes and Tyler Bowen (RBI) had the other hits for Nash Central.

    Southern Nash 18, Beddingfield 0

    The Firebirds used a nine-run first inning to roll past the Bruins in the regular-season finale in Bailey on Friday night.

    Three pitchers combined on the one-hit shutout for Southern Nash (9-14 overall). Isaiah Battle went three innings, struck out nine and walked four; Landon Brown fanned two and allowed the only hit in one inning, and Caiden Peeler struck out one batter in an inning.

    Blake Strickland (RBI) and Jeremiah Battle (double, two RBI) led the Firebirds at the plate with two hits each. Providing one hit each were Brayden Parker, Brennan Pridgen (two RBI), Keegan Wallace (RBI) and Maddox Deans (RBI).

    Beddingfield helped SN by making eight errors defensively while issuing eight walks and hitting four batters.

    SWE 4, Washington 3

    SouthWest Edgecombe improved to 11-7 overall and 6-4 in the Eastern Plains 2A Conference with a league win over Washington on Friday night in Pinetops.

    The Cougars scored two runs in the fourth and fifth inning and held on despite a three-run rally by the Pam Pack in the top of the seventh.

    Tyler Mears and Trent Nichols each had a pair of hits for SouthWest, while Tyson Ayers and Parker Gay (double, two RBI) added the other hits. Derrick Davis and Chase Taylor contributed RBI.

    Taylor picked up the win for the Cougars. He went all seven inning and allowed six hits and three runs (none earned) with one walk and four strikeouts.

    Bertie 7, NECP 6

    North East Carolina Prep suffered its second Four Rivers 1A Conference loss to Bertie in a week as the Huskies fell to the Falcons on Friday night in Windsor.

    NECP remained winless (0-10) in the conference and fell to 7-12 overall.

    Andrew Sessoms, Seth Peele (triple, RBI), Jarrett Warren (three RBI) and Will Anderson (RBI) had hits for the Huskies. William Burgess also drove in a run.

    NECP made eight errors defensively behind pitcher Tyler Mizell, who allowed seven hits and seven unearned runs with eight strikeouts and three walks.

    SOFTBALL

    Washington 14, SWE 5

    SouthWest Edgecombe fell to 4-6 in the Eastern Plains 2A Conference and 7-11 overall following an EPC loss to Washington Friday night in Pinetops.

    Washington scored 11 of its runs combined over the first three frames as the Pam Pack built an 11-2 lead. SWE scored two runs in the first inning and three in the fourth stanza.

    The Cougars finished with eight hits: Mackenzie Moore (double, two RBI) and Carlyn Hodge (double) had two each while Mackenzie Rogers, Mckenlee Mobley, Alana Carroll (RBI) and Imali Bynum (two RBI) added the other hits.

    Rogers suffered the loss on the mound. She allowed 14 hits and 14 runs (10 earned) with five walks and eight strikeouts while throwing 168 pitches over seven innings.

    NECP 17, Bertie 2

    North East Carolina Prep rolled to a regular-season sweep over the Falcons and improved to 4-6 in the Four Rivers 1A Conference and 6-11 overall on Friday night in Windsor.

    The Huskies scored four runs in the first inning and added seven more in the second, three in the third and three in the fourth. The Falcons tallied their two runs in the first inning.

    Savannah Babb had three hits (two were doubles) and an RBI for NECP, while Katelyn Knox added two hits (one a double). Also collecting hits were Emily Mann (RBI), Kaylie Mitchem (RBI), Kailee White (two RBI) and Natalie Bunting (RBI). Alba Brime also drove in a run.

    Babb picked up the win after allowing no hits through four innings with nine strikeouts and four walks.

    TENNIS

    FCS 8, Pungo 1

    Faith Christian School’s boys tennis team improved to 10-2 overall on Friday afternoon with a nonconference win over Pungo Christian Academy at home.

    The Patriots won all six singles matches via 8-0 scores: No. 1 Fenner Parker, No. 2 Gavin Johnson, No. 3 Arby Bell, No. 4 Carter Johnson, No. 5 Landon Hobgood and No. 6 Mathew Spradley.

    FCS also two of the three doubles matches, as the No. 1 team of Spradley and Andrew Hudkins won 8-1 over Brice Taylor and Brandon Tooley 8-1 and the No. 2 duo of Caleb Harris and Brayden Hardy defeated Ryan Rouse and Luke Rose 8-4.

    Pungo won No. 3 doubles (Cater Balance and Trent Armstrong 8-5 over Mathew Mehle and Cullen Nabb).
