TENNIS ROUNDUP: Patriots beat Oakwood twice

Faith Christian School won two matches over Oakwood in Carolina Independent Conference play at home on Tuesday.

The Patriots completed a suspended match at Oakwood earlier in the season by winning 5-0, then defeated the Eagles 7-2 in the regularly-scheduled match.

FCS improved to 3-0 in the conference and 9-2 overall.

In a match suspended by rain, the Patriots took two singles matches (No. 4 Arby Bell 8-1 over Vincent Lui) and No. 5 Carter Johnson (8-0 over Xavier Hines) and then swept the doubles events as the No. 1 team of Fenner Parker and Gavin Johnson won 8-2 over Eeshan Mudireddy and Victor Assis; the No. 2 duo of Bell and Bryson Hollermon shut out Lui and Kingston Farland 8-0 and the No. 3 pairing of Landon Hobgood and Andrew Hudkins eased past Hines and Carlos Geigel 8-4.

Once FCS had reached the clinching number of wins, the match was stopped with the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches remaining unfinished.

In the regularly scheduled match, Oakwood’s lone wins came at No. 1 singles (Mudireddy 6-1, 7-5 over Parker) and No. 2 singles (Assis 1-6, 6-4, 10-2 over Gavin Johnson).

Faith Christian won the remaining singles matches, as No. 3 Bell, No. 4 Hollermon and No. 6 Hudkins were all victorious by 6-0, 6-0 scores over Lui, Farland and Oscar Farrar, respectively. No. 5 Hobgood took a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Hines.

The Patriots swept the doubles events. The No. 1 team of Parker and Gavin Johnson defeated Mudireddy and Assis 8-4 while the No. 2 pairing of Bell and Hollermon defeated Lui and Farland 8-1 and the No. 3 duo of Carter Johnson and Mathew Spradley eased past Hines and Giegel 8-1.

RMA 5, Parrott 4

Rocky Mount Academy slipped past Parrott Academy in a nonconference match on Tuesday.

The Eagles emerged 6-6 overall.
