Women accused in illegal check scheme in Rocky Mount turn themselves in to police

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. (WNCN) – Two women who police said illegally cashed out checks from an adult day care center in Rocky Mount have turned themselves in.

The Rocky Mount Police Department said Wednesday that 37-year-old Christine Hartsfield and 33-year-old Tanya Bayne were apprehended by authorities.

On April 12, detectives executed two search warrants involving altered checks from the Adult Day Health and Activity Center, police said. The first search occurred at 1401 Hargrove St. while the other one happened at 202 N. Discovery St.

“During the search, the detectives found a significant amount of fraudulent printed checks, check stock paper, a specialty printer, and other assorted documents that further link the suspects to the operation,” according a news release from the Rocky Mount Police Department on April 12.

Hartsfield is charged with uttering a forged instrument and obtaining property by false pretense. She’s been issued a $1,000 unsecured bond.

Meanwhile, Bayne was arrested on three counts of uttering a forged instrument and three counts of obtaining property by false pretense. She’s been issued a $3,000 unsecured bond.
