Northern Nash’s softball team amassed 15 hits and scored four runs in the first and fourth innings and 10 in the second frame to defeat Rocky Mount 18-0 for its first Big East 2A/3A Conference victory of the season on Tuesday in Rocky Mount.

Emma Shingleton led the Knights (1-5 conference, 3-7 overall) at the plate by going 4-for-4 with four runs scored, a double and two runs batted in.

Emily Clay tripled twice in her 3-for-3 showing while adding four RBI for Northern Nash. Emma Hunt (two doubles, RBI) and Macie Sides (double, three RBI) had two hits each while collecting one hit each were Kailey Burden (RBI), Lara Sigers (triple, RBI), Chandlar Wood (double) and Carly Wilson (RBI).

The Knights stole 12 bases with Burden and Jordyn Harvin getting three each and Wilson swiping two.

Clay proved unhittable on the mound in earning the win for Northern Nash. She went four frames, struck out five and walked one.

Reyann Hatu suffered the loss on the mound for Rocky Mount (0-6, 0-12). She walked six, fanned one and allowed 15 hits and 18 runs (13 earned).

Southern Nash 17 Franklinton 1

The Southern Nash softball team moved to 11-0 on the season and 6-0 in Big East 2A/3A Conference play with a 17-1 road victory over Franklinton on Tuesday night.

Sarah Ewers pitched a five-inning one hitter and struck out 13 to get the win on the mound.

On offense the Ladybirds pounded out 20 hits with Aliyah Croll, Kaylie Love, Addison Brumfield and Savanna Baines having three hits each. Noel Dobbins had two hits and Anna Dickinson had three RBI for Southern.

RMA 11, Thales 1

Landry Miller was dominant in the circle as she rang up 10 strikeouts in Rocky Mount Academy’s 11-1 nonconference victory over Thales Academy Rolesville on Tuesday. Miller gave up no hits and one run over five innings while walking two.

Miller (3-for-3, 2 RBI) hit a solo home run to left field in the second inning, doubled in the first inning and singled in the third inning for the Eagles (2-0 CIC, 6-1 overall).

Thales Academy got on the board in the first inning when an error scored one run.

The Eagles jumped into the lead in the bottom of the first when Berkeley Miller (3-for-3, 3 RBI) singled in two runs and Bailee Allen drew a walk which scored one run.

The Eagles added three more runs in the bottom of the second inning on five hits. Landry Miller hit her solo home run to left field, Gabbi Ams (1-for-3, 3 RBI) singled in one run, and Cameron MacDonald provided an RBI single.

The Eagles added to their early lead in the bottom of the third inning after Miller singled, Thales committed an error and Ellen brought in a run with a sacrifice fly.

Rocky Mount Academy had 12 hits in the game. Both Millers each collected three hits.

Gates 16, Tarboro 0

Tarboro fell to 0-4 in the Four Rivers 1A Conference and 0-7 overall after a league loss at home to Gates County on Tuesday.

The Vikings had no hits and made three errors while the Red Barons finished with 10 hits and no errors.

Gates County improved to 2-2 in the FRC and 7-5 overall.

Roanoke Rapids 2 Nash Central 1

Nash Central’s seventh-inning rally fell just short as the Bulldogs suffered a one-run loss to Roanoke Rapids in a Big East 2A/3A Conference game at home on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets (4-1, 7-1) scored both of their runs in the third inning. Nash Central (4-2, 7-3) scored a run in the seventh.

Gracyn King and Dana Webb had two hits each for Nash Central. Hannah Hudlow and Maci Worrells provided the other hits.

Hannah Frazier worked 3.1 innings on the mound for the Bulldogs. She allowed five hits and two runs (both earned) with four walks and three strikeouts. Webb went 2.2 innings and allowed three hits.

Kalissa Williams homered for Roanoke Rapids and earned the win on the mound with nine strikeouts and two walks over seven innings.
