17-year-old arrested in connection with Rocky Mount murder

A 17-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday night in connection with a Rocky Mount murder investigation.

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A 17-year-old was taken into custody on Wednesday night in connection with a Rocky Mount murder investigation.

Rocky Mount police took the girl to juvenile services, charging her with first-degree murder and larceny of a motor vehicle. Her name was not released and she is being held under a secure custody order.

On Wednesday morning, officers found Phillip Johnson dead inside a home on the 1600 block of Cypress Street. Johnson was 57 years old. Police said there were visible signs of injury on Johnson.

The circumstances surrounding the murder are under investigation.
