Coming soon signage is up at the upcoming Pho Nom Nom at 18509 N Frederick Ave at Gaithersburg S.C. (that’s the name of the shopping center), at the former site of Pho Viet Saigon. Pho Nom Nom has an additional location at 842 Rockville Pike. A representative from the Rockville location tells us the new store is still a few months away from opening. Pho Nom Nom specializes in authentic Vietnamese cuisine, including pho, banh mi, noodles and grilled dishes.

Coming soon signage went up at the upcoming Gold’s Gym location at 12922 Middlebrook Road in Germantown in late 2022, at the former location of DSW that closed earlier that year in the Germantown Commons shopping center next to Bed Bath & Beyond. After nine years, Quincy’s South at 11401 Woodglen Dr in Rockville will be closing this Friday, March 31. The current location is scheduled to be redeveloped into an apartment complex with a retail pad and the restaurant is actively looking for a new location. Drew Gardner, who was recently in the running for Maryland bartender of the year, will be the new General Manager and managing partner when the restaurant reopens. After 3/31, Gardner will be at Quincy’s Potomac (1093 Seven Locks Rd) until a new location is found for Quincy’s South.

Permanent signage is up at the upcoming Oak Barrel and Vine store at 512 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center, next to Lil’ Cakes & Creamery and Ross. The county-run beer, wine, and liquor store will feature a tasting room with beers on tap and space to hold events hosted by local breweries and distillers. According to ABS, there have been some delays and the new store is still several months away from opening.

Pets Are Home will open its second location at 10038 Darnestown Rd. in the Travilah Square Shopping Center, taking over the space previously occupied by Michael’s Noodles near a Title Boxing Club. The first Pets Are Home Location was opened by a husband and wife team in Kensington (10414 Derrick Ave, Suite 300) in August 2021. Permanent signage has been up for a few months at the upcoming Shake Shake location in Gaithersburg’s Kentlands neighborhood. A representative from the Potomac location let us know that the Kentlands location is currently scheduled to open at the end of April. Shake Shack has additional MoCo locations at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda and Cabin John Village in Potomac.

The public is encouraged to take a brief online survey to share their suggestions. Montgomery Parks, part of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, is seeking ideas for a new park in downtown Bethesda and is encouraging the public to share suggestions by taking a brief online survey.  Comments from the survey will be used in developing concept plans for the park, which will be presented to the public in May. “This green space will be a gathering place for people across the county to recreate, relax, and gather in an urban setting,” said Linda Komes, project manager and landscape architect. “We are really interested to hear from the public about what they’d like to see here because there are so many opportunities to make it a unique destination.”

Montgomery County Police responded to a shooting that occurred on Sunday, March 26, 2023, on Treetop Lane in Silver Spring. According to MCPD, “At approximately 7:20 p.m., Montgomery County Police responded to an apartment building located at 2001 Treetop Lane for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with trauma to the body. Officers provided life saving measures to the victim who was then pronounced dead at the scene.

Rockville police is investigating two incidents of gunshot wounds that occurred on Sunday night night and Monday afternoon. On March 26, 2023, officers from the Rockville City Police Department responded to the 800 block of Monroe St in the vicinity of Dogwood Park around 9:15 p.m. for the sounds of gunshots. According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Jose Lara-Chacon of Wheaton was sentenced on Friday to life in prison suspend all but 40 years and five years of supervised probation upon release.
