Authorities announced on Friday, March 17 that 43-year-old Rasheed Duvall has been apprehended for a burglary that he committed while Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel were investigating a February fire in the Arrive Apartment complex.
At approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18, first responders were called to the 8700 block of Georgia Avenue to investigate a massive fire that had broken out inside the complex.
The building was evacuated and emergency personnel forced entry into multiple apartments by breaking locks and doors to ensure that the scene was safe for any residents, officials said.
However, Duvall saw opportunity amid the fire and brimstone inside the smoking building.
While at the scene, police say that officers were advised of a suspicious person - later identified as Duvall - who was seen exiting and re-entering the apartment building, attempting to hide a coveted Playstation 5.
Once the blaze was battled and residents were permitted back into the building, a victim notified the Montgomery County Department of Police that their next-gen video game system was missing.
During the investigation, Duvall was identified as a main suspect, and a search of his vehicle led to the recovery of the stolen Playstation.
Duvall was arrested and charged with first-degree burglary and theft of $100 to under $1,500. He is being held without bond. No return court date has been announced.
