ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — South Carolina sounds good this time of the year, especially if you’re the Rock Valley College softball team. Spartanburg, South Carolina is where the Golden Eagles will be headed at the end of this week for the NJCAA Division II World Series.

The players and coaches learned Tuesday morning during the World Series Selection Show that they are the number 13 seed in a field of 20 teams. They’ll play their first game next Monday against number 20 seed Lake Michigan.

This will be RVC’s second straight trip to Nationals at the D-2 level. The players and coaches are ready to get after it after they went 0-2 last year in Spartanburg. Head coach Darin Monroe likes how the bracket fell.

“With what we did last year and going 0-2 I thought, we want to go down there and we want to play right away. That opportunity that, you know, most would view that as a negative being in that 13 and 20 (seed) and having that additional game, but we want to go and we want to play. We want to get our feet wet. We want to be ready.”

RVC freshman and Hononegah graduate Briella Sendele is ready. “I’m excited that we’re going to be able to play this first round and hopefully be able to show-out and then be ready for the rest of the tournament.”

“We’ve been ready since last year, since Nationals,” said sophomore catcher Molly Kable. “This is what we’ve been working for. Every practice this has been in the back of our minds. We take it one game at a time and this was our ultimate goal to come back to.”

The Golden Eagles have won 31 games (31-13) so far this season. It’s the 12th straight year that the program has won 30 or more games.
