ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Samuel Cardwell, 44, for allegedly hitting a woman in the head with a lamp.

On April 24th, around 10 p.m., police responded to Hotel Weston in the 3900 block of 11th Street for a 911 call saying a woman’s head was bleeding.

When officials arrived, the victim told police that Cardwell pushed her down to the floor, hit her head with a lamp and left the hotel.

While in the lobby, police said they saw Cardwell come back and detained him. Officials observed that he had dried blood on his hand and that he smelled of alcohol, according to court documents.

Authorities said they spoke to a woman staying in room 214 who explained that she heard loud arguing from room 211 and that the victim was asking for her belongings so she could leave.

The resident of 214 told police she asked Cardwell to lower his voice and he started to walk towards her aggressively. The woman went back into her room, according to authorities.

A man in room 209 said that he also heard violent noises coming from 211 and did not step out due to safety, police said.

Cardwell is being charged with domestic battery and bodily harm.
