Rodeo Comes to Rockbridge

On February 22nd, the Lone Star Rodeo came to Rockbridge County at the Virginia Horse Center. The event gathered many people in the county, including many students from RCHS.

There are not very many big events that come to town, so when the Rodeo came, no one wanted to miss it. Many students enjoyed going to watch events such as barrel racing, bull riding, and roping.

Senior Kaydence Wilson rode her horse in the rodeo in the barrel racing event.

“It was really great to know that people from my school were there watching me do something I love, because not everyone knows that I barrel race, or what barrel racing is,” said Wilson.

Wilson was the only competitor, but many others spectated. Some students had never been to a rodeo before, so it was a cool event to attend over the weekend.

Senior Kelsie Caldwell shares how her experience at the rodeo went, as well as what her favorite part of the show was.

“This wasn’t the first rodeo I have been to, but it was still super fun to watch with my friends. I would say my favorite part was the intermission show with the boat and rabid duck,” said Caldwell.

Even for the students who have been to a rodeo before, the show was still entertaining and a great way to spend a few hours of their weekend.

The Lone Star rodeo will be coming back to the Virginia Horse Center next year. Although the rodeo isn’t until next year, there are still things to watch at the horse center. Some of those events are horse shows and barrel racing events.
