Rochester High School student Hunter Morgan has been named a President’s Scholar at Pacific Lutheran University (PLU), according to a news release from the university.

Morgan was one of 120 applicants selected out of a pool of over 400. By being named a President’s Scholar, he earned a PLU scholarship worth $34,000 per year.

“Students awarded this scholarship displayed exemplary qualities in leadership, service and academics, while also displaying the potential to enrich our campus community in the classroom and beyond,” stated the release. “This year’s President’s Scholars have a cumulative average weighted GPA of 4.09.”

All 120 President’s Scholars are now invited to PLU’s campus, located south of Tacoma in Parkland, in February to interview for more PLU scholarships such as the Harstad Scholarship, worth $40,000 per year, and the full-tuition Regents’ Scholarship. Tuition at PLU for the 2022-2023 school year was an estimated $49,472 for full-time, first-year students, according to the university’s website.

PLU is a private university known for its commitment to public service, student support services and academic rigor, according to the release. The university was recently recognized as an institution on the rise by higher education media, rising 11 spots in the U.S. News & World Report’s annual western regional university rankings, the release stated.
