ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) – The Rochester community remembered Ryan Grantham Junior, a 6-year-old who was fatally struck by a car on Thurston Road in Rochester one year ago.

Family, friends and local elected leaders held a balloon release Sunday in his honor. Last year, Farasa Brown, Ryan’s mother called on city council to take action so another tragedy like this one does not happen again.

There were no cross walks in the area where Ryan was struck. One year later there is one.

“I’m very appreciative very thankful because some situations are forgotten about. I’m thankful Rj has made an impact on the community and those around us,” Brown said.

The family hopes to push for Rj’s law to prevent these tragedies, Vazquez Simmons says she will push for it at the county and state levels.
