Internal RPD Investigation of a Pepper Sprayed Child Results Released

We now know the results of an internal Rochester police investigation that followed the use of pepper spray on a nine-year-old girl more than two years ago.

The D&C reports the four officers involved were cleared of any wrongdoing in September 2021 and returned to duty.

The paper filed a Freedom of Information request this spring in an attempt to learn the findings.

The attorney for the girl's family, Lorenzo Napolitano, says it was never told of the findings. He says he finds it hard to believe that at least one officer didn't violate protocol.

The police department is not commenting on the case, because of the pending lawsuit.
