James Fernandez-Reyes, the 16-year-old in custody in the Lebanon County triple homicide, has been named a person of interest in the shooting death of 12-year-old Juan Lopez in Rochester, New York.
Lopez’s mother, Culeyka Reyes, and aunt, Linoshka Maysonet, spoke with CBS 21 and said they believe Fernandez-Reyes was responsible for their son’s death in Nov. 2022.
“It’s really heartbreaking still, like the pain’s not gonna go away,” Maysonet said. “We want justice for him.”
Reyes and Maysonet said Juan was just a really good kid.
“He was always smiling, he was a happy kid, he was like active, he liked the music, he liked motorcycles, he was so respectful,” Maysonet said.
Rochester Police Department told CBS 21 News Fernandez-Reyes is a person of interest in that murder and also has an active warrant in the City of Rochester for possession of a handgun.
Fernandez-Reyes was also on authorities radar in 2021 as the subject of an amber alert, reportedly being kidnapped by multiple men in masks. He was found safe the next morning.
Rochester Police said they are currently working with law enforcement out of Lebanon hoping to further the investigation into the murder of Lopez.
Lopez’s family said they want to see Fernandez-Reyes in Rochester.
“We want him to come to Rochester so we can see him in court,” Maysonet said.
However, Maysonet said even if Fernandez-Reyes is convicted, it still won’t bring her nephew back.
“Nothing’s gonna bring Juan back,” Maysonet said.
In Lebanon, Fernandez-Reyes is currently facing a number of charges, including three counts of criminal homicide for the deaths of eight-year-old Jesus Perez, nine-year-old Sebastian Perez, and 19-year-old Josh Lugo last week.
The other suspect in those murders currently in custody 22-year-old Alex Santos, who will be facing the death penalty if found guilty.
Lebanon City Police are still searching for a third suspect in the triple homicide.
