Daniel Ponder, 24, is accused of forcefully abducting a mother and her 4-year-old son on Saturday morning in Rochester.

Saturday night, the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force located Ponder on Wellington Avenue. After a short foot chase, he was taken into custody.

Ponder is charged with two counts of kidnapping in the second degree, burglary in the first degree, assault in the second degree, criminal possession of a weapon in the second and third degrees, reckless endangerment in the second degree, and endangering the welfare of a child.

The events started on Saturday morning when RPD said they responded to Lake Avenue to a victim who reported being shot at, and officer’s found proof of shots being fired.

Police believe that the victim ran from a house on Fulton Avenue after an altercation there, and the suspect chased him and shot at him.

When the victim went back to the house with officers, they found that a 4-year-old boy and his mother were missing from the location.

An Amber Alert for the mother and child was activated, and RPD SWAT searched a home on Kenwood Avenue, but did not find the mother and child there.

Ponder is expected to be arraigned on Sunday.

Officials say the investigation into an additional suspect or suspects is ongoing.
