    Prep Spotlght: Runkel leads Rochester baseball past Mt. Zion with homer

    Wednesday's results

    BASEBALL

    ROCHESTER 6, MOUNT ZION 4: At Rochester, Ajay Runkel hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Rochester took a 6-2 lead before winning the nonconference game by two runs.

    Runkel, a pinch hitter, hit his fly ball over the fence in left field in his only at-bat.

    Parker Lyons and Adan Nieves each had two hits and two RBIs for the Rockets. Lyons also finished with a double.

    Jacksonville Phillips got the win. He struck out two and allowed two runs on one hit in 4 1/3 innings pitched.

    JACKSONVILLE 22, LANPHIER 2 (4 innings): At Robin Roberts Stadium, Anderson Decker walked three times, had one hit and scored five runs in the Crimsons' Central State Eight Conference game.

    Brandon Sims also scored four runs, was walked four times and had one hit. Joe Reif was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and Hayden Hicks tripled, had three hits and knocked in a pair.

    Liam Lane was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and Jacob Henry was 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Jacksonville (19-10 overall, 6-4 CS8).

    CHATHAM GLENWOOD 13, SOUTHEAST 0 (5 innings): At Chatham, Mason Marshall was 2-for-3 and drove in three runs as the Titans won a nonconference game.

    Alex Chopra struck out four in four scoreless innings. He gave up two hits and two walks.

    Joe Anderson, Cru Erickson and Klayton Reincke all had two hits apiece for the Titans.

    Tim Herrington led Southeast with one of the Spartans' two hits. He also stole a base.

    LINCOLN 4, BARTONVILLE LIMESTONE 1: At Bartonville, Wyatt Mammen struck out 10 in six innings to earn the win in a nonconference game.

    Mammen allowed one unearned run on no hits and four walks. Colbie Glenn finished the game with one hit and one strikeout in one inning.

    Griffin Shaw led the Railsplitters' offense with a pair of RBIs.

    SOFTBALL

    LANPHIER 20, SOUTHEAST 2 (4 innings): At Loveless Park, Tamaih Jefferson and Maya Bennett combined for nine RBIs as the Lions rolled to a Central State Eight Conference win.

    Jefferson, the Lions' leadoff hitter, was 2-for-2 with five RBIs. She hit an inside-the-park grand slam home run in Lanphier's 10-run third inning. Bennett followed that up with an inside-the-park solo homer immediately after Jefferson cleared the bases. Bennett, who was 3-for-3, also doubled and finished with four RBIs.

    Jefferson and Bennett combined for five of Lanphier's six hits.

    Maylee Payne struck out eight and allowed two runs — one earned — on no hits and three walks.
