ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County Police Department says a woman is dead after a single-vehicle crash occurred on May 30.

Around 2:18 p.m. on Tuesday, police report a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on Goodwin Avenue, and became airborne when the vehicle crossed Wildwood Road. The vehicle struck several trees during the accident.

The driver, 58-year-old Karen Kingery of Salem, was transported to the hospital, but later died.

Investigators determined that drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, and Kingery was not wearing her seatbelt during the incident.

The road was temporarily closed to traffic around the time of the accident.

At this time, no charges are pending, but the department is continuing to investigate the incident.
