ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Officials say the deaths of two people whose bodies were found in the parking lot of an Appalachian Trail trailhead last week were a murder-suicide.

The Roanoke Times reports that two hikers found the bodies of 17-year-old Christian Lambert and 62-year-old Lewis James Lambert, Jr. around 6 a.m. May 26.

The Roanoke County Police Department has been investigating.

In a release, the department writes that “at this stage of the police investigation, it appears that Lewis Lambert killed the male juvenile, his adopted son, and then committed suicide.

Additionally, Lewis was a person of interest in a pair of arsons that occurred earlier that morning.
