6 changes to Idaho's restaurant scene: who's opening, closing, selling
The Idaho Statesman reported this week on several shakeups to the restaurant scenes in the Treasure Valley and McCall, from the closure of a 44-year-old McCall institution to openings in Boise, Meridian, Kuna and Nampa. Here’s a quick look at who’s opening, closing and changing hands. Toll Station Pizza in downtown McCall has permanently closed after operating since 1981, with owners citing today’s financial and labor markets making survival difficult for small businesses, as announced in a Sunday message from the longtime restaurant . Brotherly Love, a new Philly cheesesteak shop at the Warehouse Food Hall , has opened at 370 S. 8th St. in Boise with 6- or 12-inch sandwiches priced at $13 or $18, served “wit” or “witout” onions. Flower Child, a health-focused fast-casual restaurant owned by The Cheesecake Factory , opened Tuesday at The Village at Meridian, marking the brand’s 46th location and its Idaho debut. The Flower Child menu at 3395 E. Longwing Lane features items like the Rebel “French Dip” wrap for $13.75 and the vegan Mother Earth bowl for $12.45, with hours of 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Lindy’s Steak House at 12249 W. Chinden Blvd., known for its Idaho-style

Observatories, Planetariums, & Locations for Stargazing in Boise
While dating, my husband would often point out stars and constellations during our late nights. He grew up lying in the backyard, picking out constellations. Now he’s sharing his love of the night sky with our kids. He loves pulling up stargazing apps on his phone to map out the stars and teaching the boys how to recognize them on their own. If you’re stargazing with kids in Boise, the Treasure Valley has more to offer than you’d think: a state park observatory, free planetarium shows, and some of the darkest skies in the country.

Pete Zimowsky’s Outdoors Spotlight: Grab your waders for fall trout fishing in the Boise River
The fly rod bent like a thin willow branch and a swirl came up out of the emerald-green waters of the Boise River. The rainbow trout was on the line what seemed like a micro-second and disappeared into the 3-foot-deep run over golden gravel. You never forget certain fish. They...

Crushed in Meridian, California chain quickly opens second restaurant in Boise area
Is it because of all the SoCal transplants? Or west Ada County’s proclivity for chain restaurants? Or does Boise just really, really, really love fast-casual Mexican food? Whatever the reason, the Idaho debut of El Pollo Loco in Meridian this summer essentially was a stampede. And not just on the first day. “The drive thru-line has roughly 25 cars in it,” a Facebook poster warned , roughly a week after the restaurant started welcoming customers. Now Nampa can join the mouthwatering frenzy. The growing chain just opened its second Treasure Valley location at 209 1st Ave. South. Open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, El Pollo Loco is giving Canyon County a taste of what Californians have known for decades. Grilled, citrus-marinated chicken is tasty .
