    State Softball Roundup: Rising Sun advances to state semis, Bo Manor's season comes to an end

    NORTH EAST — The Tigers will make their third straight appearance in the 2A State Semifinals after knocking off Hereford in a 12-0 win on Friday.

    After a scoreless first inning, Rising Sun scored seven in the home half of the second to take a 7-0 lead. Bases-loaded walks started Sun’s seven-run inning. A bases-clearing double by Jordan Lynch drove in three and put Rising Sun up five. A Hereford error, plus an RBI single from Madison Ore, gave Rising Sun its seven-run advantage.

    Following a one-run bottom of the third, Rising Sun added four more runs in the fourth. An RBI single from Olivia Stickley, plus a three-run home run by Lynch gave the Tigers their 12-run lead. Lynch finished the day with three hits and a team-high six RBIs. Stickley and Josalyn McMillan ended the game with two RBIs each. Madison Fairweather drove in a run. In the circle, Ore struck out six and allowed one walk in four innings of no-hit softball. Taylor Stapleford closed out things in the fifth with two strikeouts.

    Rising Sun will travel to Bachman Sports Complex in Glen Burnie on Tuesday to play No. 3 Walkersville. The Tigers are eyeing their third consecutive appearance in the Class 2A State Championship.

    Class 1A State Quarterfinals

    No. 2 Mardela 10, No. 7 Bohemia Manor 0

    Bo Manor’s softball season came to an end on Friday in a 10-run loss at the hands of No. 2 Mardela. The Warriors scored their 10 runs in the first four innings of play. Bohemia Manor was held to just one hit in the contest, which came in the second inning on a leadoff single from Jordon Alexander. Alexander also reached on a Mardela error in the fourth inning. Bohemia Manor finishes the year with an overall record of 11-9.
