GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert’s Son Claims He Can’t Afford A Lawyer For Theft Case

Rep. Lauren Boebert‘s (R-Colorado) 18-year-old son, Tyler Boebert, has revealed he is having difficulty affording a lawyer to represent him in his criminal court case.

Tyler appeared in the Garfield County Court on Thursday, expressing his concerns about the financial burden of legal representation.

The Rifle Police Department arrested Tyler in February for a “string of vehicle trespass and property thefts” in Rifle, Colorado. He initially faced 22 charges, which included several felony charges for criminal possession of ID documents. While eight charges have since been dropped, the remaining legal proceedings have proven to be a significant financial challenge for the Boebert family.

“We are working to hire an attorney, but it’s just been kind of hard with the prices. We are working on it… Worst-case scenario, if we can’t get something figured out with the lawyer, then I’m going to apply to a public defender or whatever works best for me,” Tyler told the court on Thursday.

The judge, Ninth Judicial District Judge John Neiley, urged Tyler to apply for a public defender and stated that “options are always good” in such situations.

Boebert’s legal troubles have come at a terrible time for his mother, who is facing an intense reelection campaign. The Boebert family has also faced other personal challenges, as Tyler became a teen father last year after his girlfriend became pregnant.

In a statement, Boebert expressed her love and support for her son and acknowledged the “very difficult, public challenges” he has faced as a young man. She also assured, “As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”

Tyler allegedly broke into four cars in Rifle and stole wallets to make purchases at various businesses, including a McDonald’s, Starbucks and gas stations. One of the victims, a woman who reported her wallet stolen, told investigators that she had a brain tumor and would now be unable to pay for her necessary surgery.

Boebert has faced numerous legal challenges of her own in the last year. She was ejected from a theater for vaping during a performance and then was accused of assaulting her estranged husband, who later dropped the charges.
