RIDGEWOOD, NJ — A big fight feeling hung in the air when the Ridgewood boys lacrosse team locked horns with their division rivals, the Mountain Lakes Lakers. Ultimately, the Maroons overcame the outside pressure and the raucous Mountain Lake crowd to out duel their foes, 12-7.

“It is Mountain Lakes and Ridgewood, so you know it is going to be a good game,” said Ridgewood Head Coach Mike Pounds. “We did not have to do anything different [to get ready]. It was just a matter of our guys staying within themselves and understanding that the environment was going to be different from anything we have seen this year. They adapted to it and did a great job.”

Also this week: the Ridgewood girls lacrosse team improved to 5-2 on the season with a hard-fought, comeback victory over Essex County powerhouse Glen Ridge on Monday afternoon. Ridgewood fell behind early, but surged in the second half to beat the Ridgers, 14-10.

Things got off to an inauspicious start for Ridgewood, as Glen Ridge scored the first four goals of the game to take an early lead. The Maroons did not score until the 4:31 mark of the first quarter, when Riese Doherty finally found the back of the net. Ridgewood would score two more unanswered goals from Grace Sullivan and Kayla Joseph to cut the deficit to just a single goal at 4-3 at the end of the opening 12 minutes.
