The Clifton Public Schools community is rallying around a maintenance worker whose daughter was struck and killed by a car in Ridgefield on Sunday night .

Known for her "bright spirit," 15-year-old Serenity Law was hit by a car at Shaler Boulevard and Edgewater Avenue at about 7:37 p.m. The corner where she was hit has since been adorned with candles and balloons to honor her memory.

Her father, Cordero Law, is a maintenance worker in the Clifton Public School district, which has created a GoFundMe to help provide financial support for funeral expenses, medical bills, and additional costs to the family.

"A dedicated member of the Clifton Public Schools maintenance team, Cordero has touched countless lives with his kindness, diligence, and unwavering commitment to our school community," says the GoFundMe description. "Together, let us wrap our arms around Cordero and his family, offering them strength, comfort, and support as they honor the memory of their precious daughter."

As of Wednesday afternoon, the fundraiser has raised over $38,000.

Several contributors have left words of support, sharing their condolences and memories of Serenity.

"Even though Serenity and I aren't that close, getting the chance to sit with her at lunch is something I'm truly grateful for," wrote Irada Knight. "She would always say hi or wave at me in the hallways, it just goes to show how much effort she puts in for people."

"So devastated to hear the news of Serenity's passing," wrote Ashley Barbosa, one of Serenity's little brother's teachers who described her as funny, beautiful, fierce, and a loving and dedicated sister to her little brother.

"Serenity was a great friend, she was outgoing, and she made instant connections with everyone. Even though we were not very close, she is someone who I will remember," said Fiorella Lozano. "She always brought good energy around people, and she would make everyone smile."

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office the crash was not a hit-and-run and remains an active investigation.
