Multiple lanes were closed on I-95 in Richmond following a shooting on Commerce Road

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Multiple lanes were closed on Interstate 95 in Richmond following a shooting that took place on Commerce Road.

According to a spokesperson for the Richmond Police Department, a shooting occurred at 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 14 on the 4400 block of Commerce Road, where a person was shot. The person then drove onto I-95, where they then pulled over and requested medical assistance.

According to the spokesperson, the person was then taken to a hospital for treatment for injuries considered life-threatening.

At 5:59 p.m. on Sunday, the north right lane and right shoulder were closed on I-95 at mile marker 72 in Richmond due to an ‘incident,’ according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

By 8 p.m., the scene was reported clear and all lanes were reopened to traffic, according to the department.
