Behind five home runs, the Rice Lake softball team powered its way past Eau Claire Memorial in both games of a Big Rivers Conference doubleheader in Rice Lake on Thursday.

Ava Anderson homered twice, while Aubrey Musil, Emily Saffert and Madi Rowe each hit one over the fence.

Anderson's two-run blast in the opening inning gave the Warriors (8-3, 4-2) a small cushion and they built on before holding off a late Old Abe (2-7, 0-6) rally.

After Rowe had led off Rice Lake's first inning with a base hit, Anderson lifted a ball over the left field fence for the 2-0 advantage.

Rice Lake added one in the third with Rowe walking, moving to second on a wild pitch and on to third on a bunt base hit from Emily Kalina. With Kalina stealing second base, Rowe stole home.

The Warriors made it 4-0 in the sixth as Kamryn Kunz walked to open the frame, was bunted to second and stole third base. She scored on an RBI ground out from Veda Stenseth.

Kunz had no-hit the Old Abes through six innings when Eau Claire Memorial had its first three batters of the seventh single to bring in one run. A double steal scored a second run, but Kunz ended the game with a strike out and two pop outs. Kunz tossed all seven frames, gave up three hits, two runs, with no walks and eight strikeouts.

Rice Lake was held to five hits with Anderson going 2 for 3 with two RBIs and one run scored.

The Warriors collected 17 hits, including seven extra-base hits in a game two rout of the Old Abes.

Saffert had three hits, drove in six runs and scored three times in the five-inning victory. With a home run and two doubles she finished the game with eight total bases.

Harper Schommer went 3 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored, while Kunz reached base four times, going 2 for 2 with two walks, two RBIs and three runs scored. Anderson had three hits, a pair of runs batted in and three runs scored.

Also collecting two hits were Kalina and Musil. Addison Seelow scored three times, and Rowe and Musil each added two RBIs.

In the first inning the Warriors got RBI hits from Kunz, Saffert, Schommer, Avery Weinstock and Rowe, who's two-run blast gave Rice Lake the 8-0 advantage.

Musil had a two-run home run and Saffert a three-run shot as the Warriors scored five in the third and led 16-3. Anderson hit her second home run of the evening in the fifth.

Kalina pitched all five innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs. She walked five and struck out four.

Menomonie 14, Rice Lake 13

A nine-run lead for the Warriors disappeared in a high-scoring first game of a doubleheader against the Mustangs in Rice Lake.

Rice Lake (3-4, 1-3) had a four-run first, seven-run second and tacked on another in the third to lead 12-3. The lead evaporated as Menomonie (4-5, 1-3) scored 10 runs in its half of the third to go in front.

The Warriors found themselves down two after a Mustang run in the fourth. Rice Lake cut the deficit to one in the sixth as Easton Stone scored on a sacrifice fly from Kalvin Kelsey. The Warriors put the tying run on first base in both the sixth and seventh innings but couldn't even the score.

Stone and Kelsey were each 2 for 3 and scored three runs. Kelsey drove in three. Brady Musil was 2 for 5 with three RBIs. Aaron Hoffman reached base three times on a hit and two walks and scored twice. Wyatt Kunesh had a hit and two RBIs and reached base two more times via walks.

Kelsey, Kunesh and Musil had run-scoring hits in the first as the Warriors jumped ahead 4-0. Rice Lake sent 12 batters to the plate in scoring seven runs on four hits and four walks in the second.

In Menomonie's 10-run frame it had just three hits, as six walks, two hit batters and one error gave the Mustangs extra runners.

Stone struck out 14 batters in complete game for the Warriors in game two. He gave up three hits, one run and walked one.

Tanner Koltunski had two hits and scored two of the Warriors' three runs.

Rice Lake scored all it needed in the first with two runs. Koltunski led off with a single, and with two down he stole second. Kelsey had reached on a hit-by-pitch and they both moved up a base on a wild pitch. Koltunski and Kelsey each scored after a Mustang error on a ground ball.

Back-to-back doubles by Menomonie in the third brought the margin to one but the Warriors added an insurance run in the fifth. Koltunski had singled with one down and with two outs the Mustangs intentionally walked Stone. Kelsey then drew a walk to load the bases and Koltunski scored on a passed ball.

Superior 2, Rice Lake 1

The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season as the Spartans (3-1, 2-1) became the first team to score more than one goal on Rice Lake (3-1-4, 0-1-2).

Both of Superior's goals came in the opening half and it wasn't until late the Warriors got on the scoreboard. Just past 75 minutes of action Audriana Schultz collected her first varsity goal. After a long pass down the field she split two defenders and had a run at the goal.

Superior scored its goals a little more than a minute apart, finding the goal in the 27th and 28th minutes.
