Police Logs: Scorpion taken into custody

The police dispatch center receives several hundred calls weekly. The small sampling below shows their diversity.

Monday, March 1811:59 a.m. Caller says there was an SUV that drove the wrong way and parked in the incorrect direction of traffic at the Rice Lake Post Office. She advised the vehicle left and is headed south on Main Street. Eau Claire St.

12:18 p.m. Dryer fire in the basement. Fire is currently contained to the dryer. Caller was advised to have all occupants exit the residence. 12:31 p.m. Fire is controlled at this time. Dryer has been removed from the basement. Margaret Ave., Barron.

7:14 p.m. Gas station says they have a live scorpion in their banana box. They called the DNR who told them not to kill it and gave them another phone number which went nowhere. 7:41 p.m. Transporting the scorpion back to the Police Department. Main St., Rice Lake.

Tuesday, March 1911:30 a.m. Caller from Barron Fire says there is a ditch fire that is spreading toward the woods. Page Chetek Fire. 11:54 a.m. Fire under control at this time. 20th St. & 9¾ Ave., Cameron.

4:43 p.m. Pump house is on fire, flames are showing. Structure is 20-by-20. It is next to the house. No animals or humans currently endangered. 4:49 p.m. Barron Electric contacted to disconnect power. They will call back with an ETA. 5:01 p.m. Fire is under control. 5:01 p.m. Barron Fire advised 40 minute ETA. 5:04 p.m. Barron Electric is not needed. No compromise to the electric. 20th St., Cameron.

7:44 p.m. Received a call advising two ATVs are flying down 22nd Avenue eastbound toward Highway V. Caller advised this is an ongoing issue and the road is not an ATV route. Rice Lake.

8:01 p.m. Caller says female subject threatened to kill her and the cops who intervene. Parties are separated. Caller is at home and was told to call back if female subject comes to her residence or contacts her. Female subject has been drinking. 8:27 p.m Negative contact. All good for now. 2nd Ave., Cumberland.

10:30 p.m. Structure fire, one occupant possibly still inside the structure. Fire has been paged by Dunn County. 10:38 p.m. Dunn County requests an emergent response from a Barron deputy. All occupants are out and there was a male on the roof. Unknown why he is/was on the roof. 10:41 p.m. Request Dallas Fire with full response. 10:47 p.m. Dunn County requesting Prairie Farm Fire for tenders and manpower. 10:53 p.m. House is fully engulfed. Spoke with homeowner who advised that at the time a friend was cutting wood on the roof, he has since come down. There are no other occupants. 10:56 p.m. Dunn County deputies are on scene. Highway V, Dunn County.

Wednesday, March 20

8:47 a.m. Clinic reports a theft of a blue pump bag. They have the individual on camera. 9:09 a.m. Officer en route to the clinic to review the camera footage. Main St., Rice Lake.

4:40 p.m. Caller says three kids are jumping out of the ditch as cars go by. They are west of 19th Street on the south side of the roadway. 5:05 p.m. No locate. Cameron.

9:35 p.m. Caller says that his neighbor’s dogs are left out until extremely late and bark while they are outside. He advised that his family is not able to sleep due to the dogs barking throughout the night. 9:56 p.m. Officer spoke to the owner of the dogs. The owner said he would try to keep the dogs quiet. Officer told the owner that if he returns for this issue, he may receive a citation. 19½ St., Cameron.

Thursday, March 21

8:11 a.m. Caller says last night she was choked by her ex. He is currently at the apartment and she is at work. She would like to speak to Rice Lake Police Department. 8:29 a.m. Officer spoke to probation and they have issued a warrant. 8:43 a.m. Ex is there but refusing to open the door. They are waiting for the victim to arrive with a key. 8:59 a.m. Making entry with the dog. 9:09 a.m. 72-hour is enforced. 9:25 a.m. Hit request sent to community corrections on ex. Moon Lake Drive, Rice Lake.

9:09 a.m. Received multiple 911 calls of a medium to larger bonfire sized grass fire. 9:13 a.m. Second caller stated the fire is near the intersection of Highways 48 and 63. Active flames smaller than the size of a car. Current wind is north-northeast 1 mph with gusts of 4 mph. 9:14 a.m. Looks like a caller has it mostly out.

9:51 a.m. Polk County is requesting Cumberland Fire for three spots of grass fires that are spreading southbound across a field. They did not get sizes of the fires. No further information. 10:05 a.m. Officer contacted both home owners. Neither are home at this time to give an update on the fire sizes or any other details. 10:37 a.m. Fire under control, mop up in progress. 210th Ave., Polk County.

12:58 p.m. Accident with injury. 1:01 p.m. One-vehicle accident with one occupant. Witness stated the vehicle went straight through the T-intersection and into the ditch, he hit his head on the windshield. Airbags did deploy. Victim is talking. Vehicle did not roll. Victim is bleeding from the head. 21½ Ave. & 8th Ave., Cumberland.

2:07 p.m. Caller claims that her ex must have been on her property again and replaced the shed handle with a gold door knob. She stated most likely done because he broke in and had to replace it. She would not go inside the shed to confirm if anything was actually missing. Poplar Ave., Cameron.

6:21 p.m. Caller says her neighbors are shooting off fireworks. 7:02 p.m. She just wanted the info logged so that she can come to the sheriff’s office and file for a harassment injunction. 14th St., Barron.

7:08 p.m. Caller says their neighbor is burning leaves in a fire pit. Paged Rice Lake Fire, still under burn ban. 7:25 p.m. Officer talked to the owner and the fire was extinguished. Gessell Ave., Rice Lake.

10:46 p.m. RP stated that she has a chimney fire. No flames in the inside of the house. 10:48 p.m. RP will be outside waiting in her vehicle. 9th St., Barron.

Friday, March 225:27 p.m. RP says two huskies got into his chicken run and killed 16 of them. The huskies are currently stuck in the run. RP posted on Facebook asking for owner information. Dogs have collars but no tags. 6:51 p.m. En route to speak with the dog owner. 7:02 p.m. Male subject called advising that he has picked his dogs up and is on the way to his residence, he will be there in about five minutes. 7:25 p.m Male subject has been cited. 29th Ave., Birchwood.

Saturday, March 23

12:24 p.m. 911 caller says she was involved in a minor two-car 10-50. Caller advised there is no injury. 12:43 p.m Officer advised a subject is requesting a wrecker to help with changing a flat tire. Made contact with tow company that will be en route. 12:48 p.m. Officer is doing fields with a male subject. 1:03 p.m. Officer with male subject en route to the jail. 2:25 p.m. En route with male subject to turn over to a responsible party. 19th St. & 17th Ave., Rice Lake.

7:33 p.m. Caller says someone consistently flies a drone over his house and lets it hover there. Caller wants to know about the rules regarding drones and what can be done about it. 8:01 p.m. There is nothing in the state statutes about how land owners are supposed to prevent this from happening. It is a misdemeanor to fly a drone over a house with the expectation of privacy. Drone was flying 10-12 feet above their heads at an Amish farm. He watched it fly back to the roadway to a white car. A female loaded it up and drove away. Happens every weekend night between 4:30 and 6 p.m. 16th St., Rice Lake. Will be doing extra patrol in the area.

Sunday, March 249:24 a.m. Call received of people looking for something in the ditch and acting suspicious. 9:51 a.m. They are looking for the female’s cell phone that was thrown out the window around 2 a.m. Another party is going to get a metal detector and will be back to look for it later on. 1½ Ave. & 13½ St., Dallas.

4:37 p.m. Caller says that she spun out on Highway C north of Rice Lake and is now in the middle of the roadway with her brakes locked up. 4:47 p.m. Caller says that she was able to get her brakes unlocked and move her car.
