Dylan Menante, who was born in Reno and now competes for North Carolina, finished fourth in the individual NCAA men's golf championship Monday at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

A senior, Menante shot rounds of 68-70-67-70 to finish with a 5-under 275, two strokes behind Florida's Fred Biondi, who came from behind to beat Georgia Tech's Ross Steelman, who bogeyed the last three holes, and Illinois' Jackson Buchanan.

Biondi finished at 7 under, Steelman and Buchanan were at 6 under and Menante and Stanford's Barclay Brown were 5 under. Menante had 21 birdies, 13 bogeys and a triple bogey during his 72 holes. Those 21 birdies were the most of anybody in the field. He was tied for first in par-5 average (4.38) and par-3 average (2.81).

North Carolina finished first in the team portion of the event and is one of eight schools that advanced to this week's match play portion of the NCAA Championships, which will be played Tuesday and Wednesday. Menante previously won a team NCAA title in 2021 at Pepperdine before transferring to North Carolina prior to this season when he earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors. He entered the NCAA Championships ranked 38th in the nation, which included a win at the 2022 Valspar College Invitational in March.

Menante was born in Reno before his family moved to the Carlsbad, Calif., area. His father, Dean, went to Reno High and golfed for the Wolf Pack. His mother, Lisa, was a Wolf Pack tennis player. The Menante surname dates back many generations in Northern Nevada to the early 1900s when Reno Vulcanizing Works was formed in 1920 by Italian immigrant Frank Menante.
