REEDLEY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – After security video showing a child on a doorbell camera kicking a guinea pig outside a Reedley home, causing its death, the other guinea pig shown in the video could die of depression without its companion, according to the owner.

The video released on Wednesday shows a juvenile chasing a chicken and then kicking the guinea pig, before fleeing the scene, according to the owner of the animals.

The video shows a chicken walking around the front yard and then the child chasing the chicken – and attempting to kick it. After the chicken runs away from the child, the child’s attention is diverted to the guinea pigs in the cage on the lawn. Reedley Police has begun an investigation into the incident .

The video can be viewed below.

WARNING: This video provided by the homeowner may be distressing.

The child can be seen lifting the cage and kicking one of the guinea pigs. He kicked the guinea pig a second time, launching it a few feet forward. The child is then seen running away and the guinea pig is left alone. According to the homeowner, the guinea pig died after the incident.

The owner of the guinea pig, Oswaldo Sandoval, says the animal kicked was one of his.

“Guinea pigs, you’re supposed to have two, because when you only have one, they get depressed and they end up dying,” he said.

He said seeing the security video made him mad.

“I didn’t know why they did it. I was kind of in shock too.”

Oswaldo says he is also concerned for the young child involved and says his actions are worrying.

“No kid in their right mind would do this,” he said. “Just watch your kids, watch what they do. Watch their actions, teach them what’s right and what’s wrong.”

Anyone with information related to this case is urged to contact the Reedley Police Department at (559) 637-4250 and request to speak with the Watch Commander.

In a statement, the Reedley Police Department confirms that it is investigating the incident.
