"Right when I was about to leave work, I get a phone call that my uncle had been shot," said Lizet Mata, the niece of Alfredo Salcedo Cuevas.

[Originial Report]Suspect shot and killed by police after deadly shooting in Reedley

Around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, 52-year-old Cuevas was shot and killed in the area of Evening Glow and Lingo Avenues in Reedley.

Neighbor Ruben Castaneda said he heard about four consecutive shots.

According to family members, Cuevas had driven up to his apartment moments prior to the shooting.

"We're still in shock. He, he was coming home from work," said Mata.

Reedley Police reported Cuevas was one of three shooting victims in total that night. The shooting spree unfolded within a span of minutes.

The suspect--a man that the Fresno County Sheriff's Office deputies describe as having a "lengthy criminal record."

The suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Moises Tellez, would have turned 21 years old on Wednesday, one day after the shooting.

Reedley Police first received a report of a man with a gun walking near 11th Street and North Avenue in Reedley around 9:30 P.M. Moments later, a woman was shot on the 100 block of South East Avenue.

Just down the street, Reedley Police received another call from the apartment on Evening Glow Avenue.

Castenada has lived in the neighborhood on Evening Glow Avenue and described the area as quiet and calm.

Officers tried to save Cuevas' life, but he died at the scene.

When he was found, he even had food in his hand. I'm assuming he was trying to eat it. We don't know, said Mata.

Reedley Police spotted a man matching the suspect's description making his way onto the Riverland Apartment complex. According to police, just before 10 P.M., the suspect fired at one officer. Moments later, three officers returned fire, hitting the suspect and killed.

This whole incident transpired in about 21 minutes, said Tony Botti with Fresno County Sheriff's Office.

As that shooting unfolded, police received another call of a man with a gunshot wound on the 700 block of east Ponderosa Avenue.

"We cannot say with certainly he’s responsible for shooting all three people, but there is a likelihood that he is based on the time frame of all of this and proximity of the shootings," said Botti.

Outside the home on Evening Glow Avenue, Mata and her family gathered to reflect on the fragility of life.

Their message to other families is simple:

"Just tell your loved ones that you love them before you go off and do what you're going to do throughout the day 'cause you don't know when you're last day will be," said Mata. "You don't know if you're going to come home after that long shift."

The family of Alfredo Salcedo Cuevas has organized a GoFundMe page with 100 percent of the donations going toward their loved one's funeral expenses.

All three Reedley Police officers have been placed on paid administrative leave. According to Police, this is the City of Reedley's first homicide of 2023. Reedley Police is handling the case involving the investigations of the three shooting victims. The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is overseeing the officer involved shooting.

The suspect had recently been released from prison on Monday, one day prior to the shooting spree.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with surveillance footage or information to call (559) 600-3111 or Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-7867 or visit the Valley Crime Stoppers website.
